54laying wait for him, to catch something out of his :mouth.

NOTE: (2010-12-01) - 11:24-36 - Jesus certainly didn't mince words when describing His generation of Jews in which He lived. He used illustrations of the Queen of Sheba and the Ninevites, to portray to His generation just how hard and unfeeling they were! He said all these things - if perchance it could cause them to see that darkness - not light- possessed them.

11:37-54 - But what He said to the crowds was mildcompared with what He unleashed upon their rulers! The one Pharisee made a mistake in inviting him to breakfast. If he thought his gesture would lead Jesus to be “politically correct” and not say anything disagreeable to him he was mistaken! Jesus read his hypocritical thought by the gifts of the Spirit, and showed him the absolute inconsistency in majoring on outward actions, and minoring on the uncleanness of inward life.

Then when a lawyer felt what was said to the scribes and Pharisees condemned the lawyers also, Jesus showed that they - the lawyers - were every whit as guilty as the Pharisees - and perhaps even more so!

And the “upshot” of this scathing revelation? No repentance whatsoever! Rather - a pressing in to prove how true Jesus' analysis was.

Note here, that in the wisdom of God, all the guilt of the human race from Abel to what was about to be done to Jesus, the very Son of God as well as the God-sent Son of :man - all the guilt of 4000 years was about to land on Jesus' generation!

This shows the corporate nature of the Adamic race. This is why Daniel in chapter 9 and Ezra in chapter 9 - bothconsidered themselves as onewith their sinning people. You and I are - in God's sight - onewith our generation. We too should confess the sins of our generation, including ourselves. You may say - But I haven't done what many other individuals have done! Neitherdid Daniel or Ezra. But they understood the corporate nature of race and culture. True intercession takes this into consideration. It also hearkens back to Paul's word in Romans 7:18 “For I knowthat in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good: for to will is present with me, but to work the good, no.” It is onlyChrist in me by His Spirit that is good - and He alonecan work goodness throughme.

In 1949 Marie and I were in Minneapolis holding meetings in a large church. After a Sunday morning service we were having dinner in the Pastor's home, and I happened to say, “My goodness!”Quickly the pastor's wife responded - “You havenogoodness! Only God in you is good!”

She was entirely correct! I have not forgotten her correction to this day. Such would save us all from the Scribe, Pharisee and Lawyer spirit! J.A.W.
